This programme provides students with the required skills for non-clinical health support work, who are able to work in holistic perspectives to enhance the health and wellbeing of individuals, whanau/families, organisations and communities.

This programme will also prepare students to undertake further study.

On completion of the programme, students will be able to use a person-centred approach to support individuals and their families in a health or wellbeing setting, demonstrate an understanding of the role of a caregiver, understand the rights of individuals and whanau within a health or wellbeing setting and work under supervision in a health or wellbeing setting.

 

 

There are no general entry requirements for this programme, however learners enrolling are expected to hold either NCEA Level 1 or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.

English language entry requirements: Applicants must have sufficient competence in the English language to undertake the programme which is taught and assessed in English.

HLTH2001 - NZ Healthcare Environment - Level 2 - Credits: 10 

HLTH2002 -  Working in Healthcare - Level 2 - Credits: 15

HLTH2003 - Healthcare Work Experience - Level 2 - Credits: 15

 TOTAL CREDITS: 40

Graduates of this qualification may progress to:

- New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 3 

- A range of qualifications in Healthcare from Level 3 and above 

Graduates of this programme will be able to: 

▪ Work within the responsibilities and boundaries a caregiver role
▪ Perform entry-level person-centred tasks and functions in a health or wellbeing setting
▪ Recognise and report risks and/or changes in a person and/or family/whānau
▪ Communicate to support a person’s health or wellbeing
▪ Progress to the next level of qualification

23451: Describe the role of a support worker in a health or wellbeing setting
23686: Describe a person's rights in a health or wellbeing setting 
26982: Describe communication with people with a communication disability in an aged care, health, or disability context
28517: Recognise and report risks and changes for a person in a health or wellbeing setting
28518: Interact with people to provide support in a health or wellbeing setting
28519: Maintain a safe and secure environment for people and support workers in a health or wellbeing setting
28529: Identify the impact of culture on support in a health or wellbeing setting
28545: Apply personal plan requirements to meet the needs of people in a health or wellbeing setting
