The aim of the programme is to develop non-clinical health professionals who are able to work in holistic perspective to enhance the wellbeing of individuals, families, organisations and communities with specific emphasis on the needs of geriatric and palliative care clients.
Graduates of this programme will also develop skills and knowledge enabling them to work with diverse communities, be able to understand and work with specific needs, values and world views in order to reduce inequities and improve health outcomes for all.
The following minimum criteria apply to this programme:
- University Entrance as specified on the NZQA website (http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/qualifications-standards/awards/university-entrance/),
- successful completion of a qualification at level 4 or above.

- Minimum of Level 5 Diploma in Health or associated field and one year work experience; or a Level 6 and above of any discipline.

Graduates of the Diploma in Health Care (Level 7) may be eligible for entry into a variety of further tertiary programmes relating to this field of study.
Graduates of the Diploma in Health Care (Level 7) will be able to seek employment in a range of workplaces.
