This programme is designed to provide graduates with the skills, knowledge and professional attributes required to provide person-centred support to those with mental health and/or addiction needs or people with disabilities and to their family/whanau.

The skills gained within this programme are transferred into work practice, with a supervised work placement in a New Zealand mental health and addiction service or disability support service organisation. Graduates will be able to take an entry level role in a mental health and addiction or disability support workplace.

Students are provided a strong foundation in the knowledge and skills, professional expectations and communications skills in Semester 1 through four common courses and then, in Semester 2, choose to study either:

- Strand 1: Mental Health and Addiction Support OR
- Strand 2: Disability Support

Students will complete a 200-hour Practicum work placement over 10 weeks at the end of the programme to apply and consolidate their knowledge and skills and to reflect on their own role.
