To introduce learners to the aging process and how it affects one’s lifestyle and well-being over time. It covers the support requirements for palliative care as well as caring for the aged. The course covers signs of abuse and appropriate responses to these.
The course covers the cultural aspects of supporting Māori in a health or well-being environment, including Māori operating principles and values and the relationship between them. Professional and ethical behaviour is discussed, and learners are provided with an introduction to human anatomy and physiology.
The aim of this course is for students to learn the correct procedures to be followed in using equipment to move people and how to assist people using assistive equipment. Workplace health and safety practices are covered. The holistic needs of the people requiring support are discussed together with how these might be met.
The aim of this course is for students to apply and develop the skills and knowledge they have acquired in a supervised workplace setting.
