This short 18-week programme is the ultimate tech-taster course and taking it will help you understand the depth and opportunity that could await you in the IT sector. You’ll gain essential knowledge and skills in the area of computer hardware, operating systems, applications, and networks and get to build a basic app and a website. You’ll even delve into how technicians go about providing support for hardware and software resources that businesses use and get some introductory knowledge covering the concepts of software development, database design, and information systems.

Principles of ICT Infrastructure
Introductory knowledge into the underlying infrastructure of computer technology and how it interacts to form a cohesive framework. You will be introduced to the hardware, software and operating systems as well as the basic principles of networking.
IT Projects in Business
Learn project management methodologies and tools as well as software development concepts and tools and their application to software development projects.
Solution Design
Hands-on practical skills of the processes involved in designing solutions to meet business requirements and the relationship between business and the information systems that support the business.
Solution Development
Learn software development methodologies and to database management systems, whilst learning about designing and creating interactive media products and websites.
Entry requirements
- Open entry to students with interview
- Preference will be given to students with qualifications in Information Technology Level 3, and/or NCEA level 2/3 OR overseas high school certificate.
This programme requires students to have access to a laptop/desktop that can connect to the internet with a web browser and a required minimum screen size of 10 inches. For device specifications, please talk to your Course Advisor.

Employment opportunities
The intention of this qualification is primarily to provide a pathway to further IT study. Graduates of this certificate will have the transferable skills and knowledge to work in a range of entry level support roles in an organisation, which may include business support or retail roles, and some roles in the IT profession under broad guidance.
