Student Success: The Inspiring Story of Anicestus, a L3 Uniformed Services Student at NZSE College

November 29, 2022

Each year at NZSE College, a new group of graduates celebrate having gained confidence, skills, ambition and sparkle over the year after completing one of our ATC (Military Prep) programmes.

This fact is of no exception to our high-achieving pupil, Anicestus (aka, 'Hola'), who graduated in late 2022 after completing his first step towards achieving his dream: working in the NZ Police Force.

During Anicestus' time here, he achieved many huge milestones; from being the student of the month in October 2022 and leading an award-winning drill routine at the Terminator Event 2022 to becoming a member of the Learners Voice Committee and winning Whau Youth Awards for this year.

We interviewed Anicestus to see what he has to say about all he has achieved, and where he sees himself moving forward.

He said, "I'd describe my time here as fun, with family... the academic side is awesome - I feel like I've learnt a lot.

"My favourite part of the course is physical training... a lot of weights, running. It does get pretty hot! Kinda like what we did for Terminator... all that kind of stuff.

"loved the company I hang around with while I’m here; my friends, the tutors - they're like family."

Winners of the Whau Youth Award are said to be kind, brave, hardworking, humble, talented, passionate and true, and Anicestus is set to receive his award 2nd December 2022.

Anicestus said, "I'm super happy to be receiving the reward, I do feel like my time here at NZSE has given me a lot more confidence that -you know - I can achieve things when I set my mind to it."

Eager to continue studying, Anicestus is on a promising career pathway towards a rewarding future in the NZ police force.

He said, "I plan to start a security course next year, and after that I’m going to go to NZMA to join the police - I’ve always wanted to! It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do ever since i was younger."

Every year, ATC holds an annual competition where all students from our three campuses: Manukau, Waikato, and Waitakere, come together to compete for the top honours within ATC.

The ATC Terminator Challenge is designed to be fun and exciting, whilst also testing the physical, mental, and strategic potential of our students to achieve success as a team. It has been two long years on hold, but the challenge makes its 2022 comeback with drill and circuit challenges, endurance sports, team work strategy, tug-of-war and so much more.

This year we will hold our ATC Terminator Event on Thursday 27th October 2022 at:

  • Parade and drill competition: Shadbolt Park - Suburbs Rugby Club, 130 Portage Rd, New Lynn,
  • Terminator physical challenge: Motu Moana Scout Camp, 140 Connaught St, Blockhouse Bay
