This course provides learners with the ability to demonstrate first aid knowledge and equip them with practical skills to handle a variety of situations where people require basic life support and first aid. This course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn the basics of first aid and for first aiders in the workplace. NZQA Unit Standards: 6402, 6401– 2 credits.
Identifying dangerous and hazardous situations and how to manage them
How to mitigate any risks including: electrocution, drowning, fire, hazardous chemicals, biological risks, presence of bodily fluids, the weather, and road traffic accidents
Collapsed person: Use NZRC Guidelines for Resuscitation including airway and breathing
Management of collapsed person/CPR including breathing support; circulation support (including accessing and attaching an AED where available)
Obstructed airway: Use NZRC Guidelines for Resuscitation for an adult, a child, and an infant
How to provide basic life support
First Aid practices including shock and bleeding, burns, fractures, soft tissue injuries, and poisonings
First Aid practices including heart attack, asthma, stroke, seizure, and diabetes
First Aid practices including recognising when to call for help, and simple management of condition(s)
Prerequisites and Requirements
Provide proof, upon entry to the course, of double vaccination against COVID-19

This course is ideal for anyone who finished the Essential First Aid Course and is looking to renew their First Aid certification.

Prerequisites and Requirements
Certified with a current First Aid Level 1 or Level 2 or Refresher or equivalent certificate that is less than 2 years old
