Career Pathway in ECE

A career in Early Childhood Education (ECE) is filled with opportunities for you to be part of young children’s learning journey. You will play an important role in laying down the pavement for children’s learning foundation, helping to shape young minds and prepare children to be ready for their future education. It is a rewarding career choice that would contribute to making a difference in the lives of children, their Whanau and community.

Early childhood teachers educate and care for infants, toddlers and young children in kindergartens, kōhanga reo or childcare centres. ECE kaiako also help children learn some te reo Māori and tikanga Māori (culture and customs). You could work in a range of early childhood facilities in this interesting sector, such as early childhood education (ECE) centres, certificated playgroups,  licensed daycare centres, home-based learning facilities, parent-led childcare services, and/or hospital-based services.
